So I got a nudge recently to update my journal, it's been over a year now i see...

I have entered into an apprenticeship program to be an electrician. I love my job and I am learning a lot and having fun.

I went to Maui, Hawaii recently with my partner, Rabbitt, and we got engaged on a tropical beach. We chose to get tattoos rather than rings to celebrate, the first piece we got is sea turtles. I'll post a picture on myspace.

We are also pregnant. Our child is due in late January and we suspect a girl.

We have a niceish house in SE portland where we are gardening and enjoying life. We have not yet set a date for the wedding, but it will be far enough out to give travelers plenty of time to make preparations.

I have met a couple guys I have been playing music with, it could turn into another band in the next few months, if we find a steady place to practice.

how are you?

US Mandatory MILITARY DRAFT 18-42 quietly snuck in!

As described at http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c109:H.R.4752.IH:

on February 14, 2006, Congressman Charles Rangel (NY) introduced a bill (Universal National Service Act of 2006 - HR 4752 IH) aiming at drafting everyone - men and women alike - from the ages of 18 to 42 into the military for a minimum period of 2 years. Or to quote the bill: "To provide for the common defense by requiring all persons in the United States, including women, between the ages of 18 and 42 to perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes." The House is to convene on June 6 (06/06/06] to debate and possibly adopt this bill, that is, unless a vast public outcry succeeds in derailing this insanity, which you can do by writing a letter of protest to your congress person through http://www.conservativeusa.org/mega-cong.htm or http://www.webslingerz.com/jhoffman/congress-email.html

MoveOn.org campaign to preserve Network Neutrality

Do you buy books online, use Google, or download to an Ipod? These
activities, plus MoveOn's online organizing ability, will be hurt if
Congress passes a radical law that gives giant corporations more control
over the Internet.

Internet providers like AT&T and Verizon are lobbying Congress hard to gut
Network Neutrality, the Internet's First Amendment. Net Neutrality
prevents AT&T from choosing which websites open most easily for you based
on which site pays AT&T more. Amazon doesn't have to outbid Barnes & Noble
for the right to work more properly on your computer.

If Net Neutrality is gutted, MoveOn either pays protection money to
dominant Internet providers or risks that online activism tools don't work
for members. Amazon and Google either pay protection money or risk that
their websites process slowly on your computer. That why these high-tech
pioneers are joining the fight to protect Network Neutrality [1]--and you
can do your part today.

The free and open Internet is under seige--can you sign this petition
letting your member of Congress know you support preserving Network
Neutrality? Two of them have new homes, the third is still here. I am waiting to find out if it has a home or if it needs one still. Cats are cool, I like them.

E-Lie is going strong. We have upgraded a lot of our equipment recently, and are closing in on owning everything to start running our own events. we still need a few things, but generally everything is coming together. visit the bad site for more on that.

I have been doing temp work recently, helping produce a catalog of clothing products. I am going to be returning to the world of Pizza this week. The Godfathers Pizza near my house is going to hire me to make pizza crusts each morning, Monday to Friday. This works out great because it is close to home and does not interfear with band stuff.

I have been listening to the new Gorillaz album "Demon Days" a lot recently, it is good, and darn catchy.

Today concludes my visit to Minneapolis. I didn't get to see nearly everybody i had hoped. I did get to see plenty of people I missed. next visit will not be a suprise so maybe the timing will work out better.

I have had a wonderful visit. I have caught up with my family and many of my good freinds from over the years. now that I am trying to see everybody in a few days i reralize how many people i left behind when i moved to the west coast. this is both sad and glad news however, because at least I have a lot of friends to leave behind, that is a far cry better than some people manage. :)

I am very excited to return to my crazy new home, full of awesome roomies. i eagerly await returning to band practice and making some music. I also need to get back to finding a job and earning rent and such, so off i go.

I don't know where everybody's doors are, and i do wantr to see people, so I am letting the secret slip. call or email or post a reply here if you want to see me, I fly home on Tuesday, so I have a couple days left, perhaps we can arrange a big gathering in the next couple days.

erik [at] E-Lie.com
503-998-3276

It's funny to me what impacts me and what doesn't. I saw angelo and neugotik the other day. it was awesome, and it had been like a year and a half since I had seen them last, but it was strange how much it was just seeing them again. like with friends time and space don't seem to detract from our relationship, so when we are together again we just fall into being friends in the same place instead of friends far away. I was really glad to see you both, and i look forward to doing so again soon.

Then there are the things I don't expect to hit me so hard. I saw Becca again last night. She came out here to my place for the first time, and basiclly broke off our seeing each other and left. Now, I have only seen her a handful of times over the last couple months, and we were not in any serious relationship, but this really hurt. She is an amazing person, the likes of which I rarely meet, and I was/am very fond of her. I am sad about this. I hope I can get over it, there is no bad blood between us, and I want to keep her in my life because she is just an awesome person. That may or may not work out...

And to all my protective, err, psychotic friends, no blunt objects are required, but you are welcome to travel for a visit any time you like, I could use a hug today.

Life does the funniest things. I am sure many of you have heard by now that I was involved in an accident just a couple days after my previous post. I was riding the MAX here in portland from my new home into town, when a fire truck hit the train, derailing it and causing a big mess.

My memory of the accadent is gone, but from what I can tell from the medical records and the EMTs at the scene, I was able to extract myself from the mangled train, and I was sitting on the sidewalk nearby when the EMTs found me. I reported pain on my left side and back and that i was blacking out, then i started repeating questions to them.

I spent the night in the hospital, where I found out about my 8 broken ribs (top 8 on the left side, in back, abnout 3 inches left of my spine) and a punctured lung. I also had a concussion which was not serious. My left lung was about 1/2 colapsed because of the puncture, but since then my body has reabsorbed the pnumothorax (sp?) that was causing the problem so i can breathe easily now. The ribs are still very painful, but I am recovering quickly (I think) and each day is a bit better.

the whole thing is really wierd to me still, I'm not sure quite how to take it. generally, life is good, and things keep happening, but I think I will be sorting this out for a few more weeks as I finish healing.

The new house is awesome. my roomies are super cool and i am very happy here. the band is going into the studio this weekend, so we should have real studio quality tracks in a couple months. I have been broken the last few weeks, so i have not been working, but I was out today applying for jobs, I hope to get a part-time McJob soon so i can pay bills while I keep on pursuing the music thing.

Finally, I have met a girl recently who I am now seeing regularly. Not sure where that is heading, but I so rarely meet women I am interested in that it is a major event in my life even if it goes nowhere.

I recently got a request to update my journal, so here is an update.

so, since my last post I have been up to a lot. I started and finished a job at the Portland Peace and justice Center. I am in the Process of starting a new job now. I will be working for an interior design company helping their customers resolve problems with new installations, which promises to be educational as far as window blinds and area rugs are concerned.

The band is going strong. We won the 2004 New Copper Penny Battle of the Bands here in Portland a couple weeks ago. we are starting to meet with studios about recording a good demo cd, so we may finally get some good recordings online this spring.

I am also in the process of moving. I have become the 9th member of the Nightmare collective, which is located in Forest Grove, Oregon. The collective has a HUGE space with plenty of room for more development. This is a collective of artists of basically all types who share living and working space. I am sure you will hear more about this soon, but it may be a few weeks before I have internet working out there.

ok, back to moving. :)

I spent a few hours with my voter information books today and got my ballot filled out and dropped it in the mail. I feel better somehow now that I have cast my vote. If you don't have mail-in voting in your state, you are missing out, having weeks with the ballot and the books the send out with information about candidates and other state measures really lets me take my time to think over issues.

If you have mail-in voting, have you done it yet?

SO, Tonight my band won our night at the KUFO (Portland radio station), Guitar Center, and New Copper Penny Battle of the Bands. We got a small cash prize and we advance to round two on November 7th. If we win again, we go on to the final battle on December 12th. This is all at the New Copper penny, there is no cover charge for these shows, so if you are in town, come see us in round two!

Other than that, life is good. I heard our name on the radio this week, which is a first for me. So far this band has done a lot very quickly. The five of us only met about eight months ago, and we have already been on ticketmaster, and the radio (our name, not a song), played a triple header, and several four hour shows. I can't help but pat myself on the back a little, a year ago I was barely willing to dream about getting another band together, and now we are advancing to the semi-finals in a high-profile battle of the bands. If i am dreaming, I am sleeping in.
